What is your standpoint for the near future?

Since 2002, NXT has been helping companies and organisations to take their next action; knowing and leading their impact. We address complex challenges with an open mindset. We find answers at the interplay between politics, business, art and science.

NXT was founded in the ‘00s, when the world lost its innocence to 9/11 and the dot.com crisis burst the bubble of a young, fast-money internet. With Al-Gore in Copenhagen and hosting COP15 in 2009, we put our focus on the climate and biodiversity crises. This brought strategic assignments across sectors, calling on our diverse knowledge and skill set as researchers, economists, artists, journalists, architects and movement-makers.

We know that there is no future for unlimited growth and consumption and see the chance as an opportunity to strike a new relationship with the natural world.

As a result of our diverse expertise, we offer the following services:

PA, Strategy and crisis communication
Our public affairs, strategy and advisory work involves navigating political landscapes, influencing decision-making and shaping public conversations. It requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and social and economic contexts to advise and support organisations towards achieving positive impact.

ESG & EU Legislation
The EU strives for climate neutral by 2050 with a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030. Capital must be channelled into climate positive projects and companies are now required to report business activities with respect to impact, implement due diligence procedures and clarify their communication. NXT helps with the framework and implementation.

Storytelling
We steer communication projects for large building projects bringing together local residents, local politics and the building sector. The reasoning behind centrally coordinated communication is that partnership projects of this size contain hidden perspectives that can reveal a valuable narrative of the building. Often these stories remain untold since the construction, time schedule and finished result are the primary focus.

Regenerative Placemaking
NXT holds art at its core– art as a view on life, society and imagining possible futures for the green transition.  We bring speculative ideas to life through projects like Dome of Visions, The Garden Caretaker, and Being of Place; a method for capturing the essence of new sites with artists, architects, business professionals and citizens collaborating on contemporary challenges within the framework of art.

Nybrogade Press Publications
NXT has a publishing house that explores current trends and connects them with critical voices. Our books and magazines cover topics from quantum physics to eco-feminism, with a focus on depth and beautiful design.

Leadership seminars + conferences
We are rooted in deep knowledge of what lies ahead in the near future. With this in mind, we develop strategic leadership seminars and conferences for partners in the construction industry. What influences tomorrow?

New European Bauhaus
– Designing the Irresistible Circular Society

The Garden Caretaker is a new social character that uses the tools of art to invite citizens to explore the places they inhabit. It is a pilot project under New European Bauhaus, where NXT is part of the Danish-initiated collaboration Desire – an irresistible circular society.

The art and urban development project activates artistic methods in a site-specific and ecological perspective, where the involvement of citizens and other species plays a crucial role. The aim of The Garden Host is to stimulate connection to the site and its human and non-human inhabitants through artistic practice.

WoodHub – a beacon for timber construction

Wood is increasingly becoming one of the most sought-after building materials of the future. Until 2025, the Danish Building & Property Agency is building a government office hub of 31,000 square metres in Odense. The load-bearing structures will be made of wood, as described by the Danish Building and Property Agency in the tender documents. The office centre is already being called a beacon for large-scale timber construction.

NCC is responsible for the construction, and NXT drives storytelling for the project partners.

ESG and sustainability regulation
What does it mean for your business?

We offer reviews of the comprehensive regulatory landscape on ESG and sustainability coming from the EU: the Paris Agreement and the Kunming Montreal Biodiversity Framework, the European Green Deal, the EU Taxonomy Regulation, SFDR, CSRD, CSDDD, Greenwashing, the Green Tripartite, the Nature Restoration Regulation and the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

The review is primarily aimed at boards of directors and executive management responsible for setting and implementing strategic directions, continuously analysing risks and opportunities, and responsible for the company’s extended sustainability reporting. It is also relevant for sustainability, finance and marketing departments whose day-to-day operations will be affected by the regulatory implementation.

What happens if we listen to a place before we build on it?

The Essence of Place is an interdisciplinary registration method for regenerative and sensory urban development. Methodically, we go in and map site-specific qualities on building plots before they are developed. The method is developed by NXT in co-creation with the ecosystem of competences associated with the house. The claim is that responsiveness to a place can create added value for more people. Added value in this context should be seen as more than dollars and cents. It is a long-term currency that points to the future demands of construction. Demands that will optimise the needs of both people and the environment – without compromising the ability of future and diverse generations to meet their needs.

The Garden Caretaker is a result of such registration and was tested during the construction of a new housing project springing up on a former factory site in Herlev.

How can we build and live more regeneratively?

Dome of Visions was first and foremost a 1:1 experiment in how we will build and live in the future. A living laboratory with a focus on architecture, material ethics, data collection and sensuality, where there was room for the lived life of multiple species. The curatorial strategy was one of the keys to cross-industry and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The project was developed in close collaboration with NCC, Atelier Kristoffer Tejlgaard and Gry Worre Hallberg.

How can the renovation queue in the social housing sector be resolved in a smart and green way, even though construction is taking place at a time of great risk?

The social housing sector, along with the rest of the construction industry, is facing a new reality that affects the future room for manoeuvre. The global crises have already left their mark on the industry, and the risk profile of refurbishment projects in social housing has changed drastically.

The conference focussed on the need for renovation and invited social housing developers to debate. NCC and Enemærke & Petersen were behind the initiative. The seminar was run by NXT.

Quantum computing and quantum encryption – is the energy sector ready?

A strategic management seminar on quantum computing and quantum encryption for the energy sector. Businesses and governments rely on secure communication. But quantum computing can hack most of the encryption we use today. In parallel with the development of the quantum computer, intensive research is being conducted into encryption methods that this new computer cannot hack. One of these methods is quantum encryption, which, like the quantum computer, is based on the laws of quantum physics.

The seminar was developed by NXT in collaboration with DTU.

What will happen in the next 100 years?

‘In 100 years – starting now’ is a collaborative project with House of Futures, where we applied methods from futures studies in a 100-year perspective. The aim was to outline the key drivers and major uncertainties in the movement towards the preferred futures for 2112. Through seminars with a wide range of Danish and international stakeholders, we explored meaningful answers to highly topical questions: How can we sustain, develop and enrich human existence with the limited resources available on Earth? What does it take to co-create long-term sustainable societal development? And what are the possible, plausible and preferred futures?
